"Too many attempts" when signing in

Why Smart School sometimes asks you to wait before signing in, how long for, and what to do meanwhile.

To keep accounts safe from password guessing, Smart School asks you to wait after too many tries. Nothing is wrong with your account, and nothing is deleted. It clears by itself.

What you might see

  • On the website: a page titled Too many attempts.
  • In the app: Too many requests. Retry later.

How long to wait

  • Only you are stuck: there were 10 sign-in tries on your account within 15 minutes. Wait up to 15 minutes, then sign in once, carefully.
  • Everyone on your school's Wi-Fi is stuck: many wrong passwords came from that network. Wait 5 minutes. Anyone who was already signed in can carry on.
  • The app says it while you're using it: wait up to a minute and try again.

While you wait

  • Check the email address: it must be the one your school added you with.
  • Check Caps Lock, and that the keyboard language is English.
  • Don't keep trying: more tries during the wait won't get you in sooner.
  • Forgot the password? Use Reset your password. You can request up to 3 reset emails an hour, so check your spam folder before asking again.

Still stuck?

Tell your school office what the message says and whether others on the same Wi-Fi have the same problem. They can pass it on to Smart School support.
